1. Who We Are

Wortschatz is a free German vocabulary learning app. For questions about these Terms, contact us using the details in the Contact section below.

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years old (or the minimum age required in your country) to use the app. By using it, you confirm that you meet this requirement and that the information you provide when creating an account is accurate.

3. Your Account

You are responsible for activity that happens under your account and for keeping your sign-in secure. Authentication is handled by Clerk; we never see or store your password. You may delete your account and all associated data at any time from Settings → Delete Account.

4. Acceptable Use

The app is a solo learning tool. You agree to use it only for lawful, personal, educational purposes, and you agree not to:

• break any applicable law or infringe anyone's rights;
• attempt to access other users' accounts or data, or disrupt, overload, or reverse-engineer the service;
• abuse the AI features — for example by trying to bypass safety measures, scrape output at scale, or use the app to generate content unrelated to language learning;
• resell, redistribute, or commercially exploit the app or its content without our written permission.

5. Prohibited and Objectionable Content — Zero Tolerance

We have zero tolerance for objectionable content. You may not create, upload, scan, submit, or request — including through chapter titles and descriptions, scanned images, chat messages, or any prompt to the AI — any content that is:

• hateful, harassing, or that demeans people based on race, ethnicity, religion, nationality, gender, sexual orientation, disability, or any protected status;
• sexual content involving minors, or any sexually explicit or pornographic material;
• violent, threatening, or that promotes self-harm, terrorism, or illegal acts;
• defamatory, fraudulent, or that infringes intellectual-property or privacy rights;
• spam, malware, or otherwise unlawful.

Violations may result in immediate removal of the content and termination of your account without notice. We do not knowingly tolerate abusive users and will remove them from the service promptly.

6. Your Content and the License You Give Us

You keep ownership of the learning content you create (vocabulary words, chapters, notes, and similar). To run the service, you grant us a limited, worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, store, process, display, and back up that content solely to provide the app to you — including processing it through our AI providers and through automated safety screening (see "Content Moderation and Reporting" below). Your learning content is private to your account; we do not publish it or make it available to other users. This license ends when you delete the content or your account, except for copies we must retain briefly to complete deletion or to comply with law.

7. AI-Generated Content — Nature and No Guarantee

The app uses generative AI (from Anthropic and OpenAI) to create much of what you see: vocabulary cards, translations, example sentences, stories, audio, podcast-style episodes, word bridges, snippets, and tutor chat replies.

8. Content Moderation and Reporting

To keep the app safe, content you submit and certain AI output may be processed through automated moderation (for example, safety classifiers) and may be reviewed if it is reported. If content is flagged as violating these Terms, we may refuse to store it, remove it, or block the action.

If you encounter content that you believe is objectionable or violates these Terms, you canreport it from within the app using the report control on the relevant item. We review reports and act on violations — typically within 24 hours — by removing offending content and, where warranted, removing the user who provided it. You can also delete your own words and chapters at any time.

9. Service Availability

The app is provided "as is" and "as available". We do not guarantee that it will be uninterrupted, error-free, or available at all times; features depend on our backend and on third-party providers, and may change, be limited (including daily AI usage limits), or be discontinued. We may modify or suspend the service, in whole or in part, at any time.

10. Termination

We may suspend or terminate your access, and remove your content, if you violate these Terms or use the app in a way that harms other users, us, or third parties. You may stop using the app and delete your account at any time. Provisions that by their nature should survive termination (including content licenses needed to complete deletion, disclaimers, and limitation of liability) will survive.

We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by the "Last Updated" and "Version" dates above, and we may ask you to accept the new version in the app before continuing to use it.

13. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of Germany, without regard to conflict-of-law rules.
